We would like to take this time to thank Bob Buchan for, as of 2020, marks 50 years of volunteering for PCMSA. His commitment to the children of Port Coquitlam, and surrounding areas, has made a huge impact in the lives of so many, and a simple thank you, almost seems inadequate.

About Bob:

He began coaching with PCMSA when his daughters were playing themselves. He volunteered to coach because they kept asking him to umpire and he did not enjoy that!

After both daughters left softball, he stayed on to coach the game he loves. He was President of the association when a mens team asked to join, and they brought with them the Ravens name and logo.

For many years PoCo had as many boys teams, as they had girls and put forward very competitive teams. Some of the more notable players he has coached are Canadian Olympians Danielle Lawrie, and PoCo’s own Jennifer Salling. He has coached teams that have won numerous tournaments, district championships, and Provincial championships.

For many years Bob took teams to Southern California to compete in the Friendship Tournament that brought international teams together to compete in a week long tournament. Teams not only competed in this tournament but the were housed together and ate all their meals together creating bonds that would last for years.

Alison Goulding began coaching with Bob in 2013, and the core of that team is still playing together in a Sr ladies league with other players that Bob has coached from previous years. Bob expects effort from his players and in turn he will go out of his way to help them improve. When asked he would go to the field and help any player with extra reps outside of regular practice, something Jenn Salling took advantage of often, probably why she made it to the top of the game!

He is now coaching the 07 Ravens and is enjoying a renewed love of the game getting to impart his wisdom and experience to a new generation.

We would like to take this time to extend our many thanks to Bob for his time, and wisdom, and hope he will be around for many years to come.

Thank You Bob!
