Hello PCMSA members.
We have been working closely with the City of Port Coquitlam, Softball BC, and ViaSport, so that we can proceed with a 2020 season.
We thank you for your ongoing patience as we figure out how to proceed safely.
Softball BC has now released their Return to Play Guidelines which can be found here. There are NO major rule changes.
We have a tentative start date of June 17th for teams to begin practices. All players and coaches MUST sign the waiver on the PCMSA website as soon as possible, and no softball activities can begin until each team has had all members complete the waiver
Games within our region may begin as early as July 1st (barring any updated information from the Province) with the duration expected to be July-August for a regular season. Provincials may occur in September (to be determined).
As there are no hosted tournaments or clinics that will require volunteers, we are waiving the requirement for deposit cheques this season. Each team will need additional parent help to allow teams to meet the Softball BC requirements (e.g. equipment sanitization, ensuring social distancing, health checks and attendance management), in addition to basic roles such as scorekeeping and field prep. Note: U6 and U8 players require a chaperone.
We understand that this season is not what you expected. We will provide a 30% refund of registration fees to those players who plan to return. These refunds will be issued at the END of the season.
Again, we thank you for your patience, and we look forward to seeing you all at McLean!

We are happy to announce the following Coaches for our Ravens Rep Teams for the 2020 season!
PoCo Minor Softball is thrilled to have Kevin Stark returning to coach to the U19B Ravens for the 2020 season.
Kevin is a 10 year coach with PoCo Minor, the past 8 as a rep head coach. He feels fortunate during that time to have been at the helm of two provincial gold medal winning teams and two Canada Cup gold medal teams. Kevin has had the benefit of learning from very experienced and successful coaches over his years in softball and is now himself a mentor in PoCo’s rep program. He enjoys working with athletes as they strive to be the best they can be and hopes they learn some life lessons along the way.
PoCo Minor is delighted to welcome Lana Cummings to our rep coaching team as the Head Coach for our 2020 U10 - Supermite team.
Lana has loved ball since playing T-ball at 5 years of age. She played Fast-pitch Rep Softball as a catcher for 5 years as a teen-ager, and slow-pitch in her 20’s. At 19 she coached a t-ball team, and started coaching again last year for the Ravens U10 team after completing her Community Sport Softball Coaching Certification. Lana is looking forward to coaching PoCo’s 2020 Supermite Rep team!
U14A Head Coach, Bio to come
PoCo Minor is delighted to welcome Cathy Fitzgerald to our rep coaching team as the U14B Head Coach for the 2020 season.
Cathy, a mother of two girls, is in her third year coaching Rep ball with the Ravens. She has played team sports her whole life – fastpitch catcher as a young girl, soccer goalie through high school and university, and then competitive slowpitch the last 15 years. Cathy, a geologist, is a current softball player, and therefore has real-time understanding of softball from both points of view – as coach and player, that she feels benefits the girls in a unique way. She enjoys being a positive role model for young girls, advancing their softball skills, but also other life skills that develop as part of playing team sports. Cathy has her Level I Competition Introduction Training from Softball BC and will complete Level 2 this year.
Please be patient while we sort out how the season will go, and we will make a final decision re: volunteering, based on revised schedule, and if and when we should decide if any tournaments will be held.
We are just about to kick off the 2020 season, and we are hard at work getting teams organized, and tournaments set up. In order to make our season successful, and keep costs down for families, we depend on YOUR help to get things done. As stipulated when you registered,
Hour Requirements 2020 Season:
Volunteer hour requirements per registered family in each team shall be 5 hours in order to qualify for return of volunteer deposit cheques. There is a 2 hour volunteer requirement for the U6/Learn-to-play division.
There are no exceptions unless you have discussed this with our volunteer coordinator.
We thank you in advance for your amazing commitment to our association, and making the season great for our kids!
